The Laughing Haunted House
Beginner · ≈ 1 min story · 1 min read
Best friends Ava and Mia tiptoe into an old, cobweb-covered house beside the marshes to find out if a ghost really lives there. When a loud BOOM sends Mia racing outside, it turns out Ava has a secret that turns the scare into a joke. A short, gently spooky story with a funny twist about how scary things are not always what they seem.
One afternoon, Ava and her best friend Mia stood near an old house beside the marshes. Creepers covered the walls, cobwebs hung in the corners, and the place looked completely empty. “I’m not going inside,” Mia whispered. Ava smiled. “Don’t be so scared. We’ll just look around and see if there really is a ghost.”
Slowly, they stepped inside. The wind whistled through the trees and made a strange, eerie sound. “It feels spooky in here,” Mia said. Suddenly... “BOOM!” Mia screamed and rushed outside as fast as she could. But Ava stayed behind. Then she smiled and pulled out a little cracker she had hidden earlier under an old table.
Ava had planned the whole thing! She stepped outside laughing while poor Mia finally understood that the “haunted” house had not been haunted at all.
