Mia rarely has time to play, because her father comes home very late from work and she helps with the housework and does her homework on her own. One evening she finishes early and goes to the park, where a kind girl named Lily walks over and offers to be her friend. From then on, whenever Mia has some free time, the two girls meet at the park and become very good friends.
Mia did not have many friends. Her father returned home very late from work, so Mia often helped with the housework and finished her homework by herself. By the time everything was done, there was hardly any time left to play. One evening, Mia finished her work early and went to the park.
A girl named Lily walked over to her. “Are you new here?” Lily asked. Mia smiled shyly. “Not really. I’m usually busy helping at home, so I don’t get much time to play.” Lily shook her head kindly. “You shouldn’t feel bad about helping your family. But everyone needs a little time to play too. I can be your friend, and whenever you are free, we can play together.”
Mia’s face brightened. “Really?”
“Of course!” Lily said.
From that day on, whenever Mia had some free time, she and Lily met at the park. Soon, the two girls became very good friends.
