Lily names her golden retriever puppy Charlie Retriever, and her friends laugh and ask what he could possibly retrieve. One day by the river, Mia slips into the water and nobody can swim well enough to reach her, so Charlie jumps in and pulls her safely to shore. A short, warm bedtime story about loyalty, courage and not judging others too quickly.

One day, Lily’s father gave her a puppy. He told her, “He is a golden retriever.” Lily smiled. “Then I’ll call him Charlie Retriever!” Her friends laughed. “What does your dog retrieve?” they teased. Lily did not mind. Charlie followed her everywhere, played beside her, and soon grew into a strong, loyal dog.

One day, Lily and her friends were playing near a river when her friend Mia slipped and fell into the water. “Help!” cried Mia. No one knew how to swim well enough to reach her. Suddenly, Charlie jumped into the river. He paddled straight toward Mia, caught hold of her clothes gently, and pulled her back to the shore.

Lily hugged him tightly. “You really lived up to your name, my buddy. You’re my best friend!” Her friends felt ashamed for teasing him and softly patted brave Charlie.
