Lily had gone to a party and later stopped at the park to play. She had so much fun that she forgot about time and came home with dirty clothes. “Oh no,” Lily thought. “Mom is going to be upset.” So she quickly made up a story.
“Mom, on my way home, I saw some aliens taking away a little boy in a strange car. I fought them and saved him!”
Her mother stared at her in surprise. Just then, Lily’s friend came running to the door. “Lily! You forgot your bag at the park while we were playing. Here it is!” Lily’s face turned red. Her mother said gently, “Lily, you lied to me.” Lily looked down. “I’m sorry, Mom. I was afraid you would scold me.”
She promised never to lie again and to take better care of her things. Lily learned that telling the truth is always better than hiding a small mistake with a big lie.
