When Lily's clay pot slips into a forest lake, a kind water nymph rises to help. She brings up a shining silver pot and then a golden one, but Lily says neither is hers. Because she told the truth, Lily goes home with all three pots and a happy heart.

One day, Lily was collecting water from a forest lake when her clay pot slipped from her hands. Splash!

“Oh no!” Lily cried.

A beautiful water nymph rose from the lake.

“Don’t cry. I will help you.”

The nymph disappeared beneath the water and returned holding a shining silver pot.

“Is this yours?”

Lily shook her head. “No, that isn’t mine.” The nymph returned again, this time with a golden pot.

“What about this one?”

Lily looked at it and said, “No. Mine was just a simple clay pot.” Finally, the nymph brought back Lily’s old pot.

“That’s mine!” Lily cried.

The nymph smiled.

“I was testing you. You told the truth even when you could have taken something more valuable.”

She gave Lily her clay pot, along with the silver and golden ones as a reward. Lily thanked the nymph and went home, happy that honesty had brought its own reward.
