A short, gentle story about thinking before you speak and keeping private things private.
Sophie was working in the family garden when her older sister, Emma, called her inside for lunch.
“Wait a minute!” Sophie shouted. “I’ll hide the spade and then come!”
When she came inside, Emma frowned. “Why did you shout that so loudly? If you want to hide something, you should not tell the whole world where it is.” Sophie shrugged and sat down to eat. After lunch, she went back to the garden. A moment later, she rushed inside.
“Emma! The spade is gone! Somebody stole it!” Emma looked at her and sighed. Sophie suddenly remembered how loudly she had announced that she was hiding it. “Oh... maybe someone heard me.” Emma nodded. Sophie understood the lesson at once. From that day on, she learned to think before speaking and to keep private things private.
