Bella and the Rainy Day Lesson

Bella the cuckoo would rather sing in the summer sunshine than build a nest or store food like the other birds. When Benny the bee asks why, she laughs and says she will get ready when the rain comes. But when the rainy season arrives, Bella has no home and no food, and she learns why it pays to do important things on time.

During summer, all the birds were busy building nests and storing food for the rainy season. But Bella the cuckoo spent her days singing in the sunshine. One day, a bee named Benny asked, “Bella, why don’t you build a nest and collect some food too?” Bella laughed. “Why worry now? I’m enjoying the sun! I’ll build my home when the rain comes.”

Benny returned to his hive and continued working. Soon, dark clouds filled the sky. Rain poured down, and Bella suddenly realised she had no nest and no food. She flew to Benny’s hive and knocked.

“Please, can I stay with you?”

Benny wished he could help, but Bella could not enter the small hive, and she could not eat the bees’ stored food. Bella understood her mistake. She had waited too long. From then on, Bella worked when there was work to do and never left important things until the last moment.
