Emily, a farmer’s daughter, was riding her horse, Bruno, to a faraway market. One of Bruno’s horseshoes was loose, but Emily ignored it. “It is only one nail,” she said. “It won’t make much difference.” Soon, the horseshoe fell off. The road was rough and stony, and Bruno began to limp.
Suddenly, a thief appeared and stole all of Emily’s money. Bruno tried to run, but his injured hoof slowed him down. Emily sighed, “If only I had fixed that one loose nail.” She slowly walked Bruno back home, sad but much wiser.
