Every birthday, Emma gets dolls, even though she also dreams of trains, boats, and big trucks. At Christmas she finally writes to Santa that not every girl likes dolls, and on Christmas morning she opens the toys she always wanted. A warm story about knowing what you like and saying it out loud.

Every year on her birthday, Emma received dolls. She smiled and said thank you, but inside she wished for something different. a toy train, a boat, maybe even a big truck. People often thought, “She is a girl, so she must like dolls.” But Emma knew that was not true. She liked all kinds of toys.

At Christmas, Emma decided to write a letter to Santa. She wrote, “Not every girl likes dolls. Some girls like trains, trucks, boats, and action toys too.” On Christmas morning, Emma opened her gift box. Inside were toys she had always wanted. “A train! And a truck!”

Emma laughed with joy and said, “I should have said what I liked a long time ago!” She learned that it is always okay to have your own choices and to share them clearly.
