All of Ruby's brothers and sisters have learned to fly, but Ruby is still too scared to leave the nest. Mama Bird worries, and Papa Bird calmly says she will fly when the time is right. One day Ruby is alone in the nest when a big snake starts climbing the tree toward her. She is frightened, but she spreads her wings, flies away just in time, and finds out she could do it all along.
Mama Bird was worried. “All our babies have learned to fly,” she told Papa Bird, “but little Ruby still refuses to leave the nest.” Papa Bird smiled calmly.
“She will fly when the time is right.”
One day, Ruby was alone in the nest while her parents were away. Suddenly, she noticed something moving below. A large snake was slowly slithering up the tree toward her nest. Ruby cried out for her parents, but they were too far away to hear her. The snake came closer... and closer.
Ruby looked down from the nest. She was scared, but she knew she had to do something. With all her strength, she spread her wings. Flap... flap... flap! Ruby lifted into the air and flew away just before the snake reached her. A little later, her parents returned. Papa Bird smiled proudly. “See? It really was the right time for her to fly.”
And Ruby, now safe and flying freely, knew that she could do it after all.
